It was fun in the sun when the Wight Eagles Ladies academy football teams held their first summer tournament at the Bay School in Sandown on Saturday. Over 200 players and parents from Island and mainland sides attended, with the Wight Eagles teams victorious in the Under 12 and Under 14 categories.
“It was a great way to celebrate our recent move to Sandown” said Wight Eagles Chairman Mike Ross “and we are immensely grateful to Chris Fletcher and his team at the Bay for helping us make it happen. The standard of football was very good and there were two penalty shoot-outs to add to the excitement!”
“This was a great showcase for girls’ football on the Island. Our retiring Secretary Scott Ronan and his partner Sian pulled out all the stops and organised the event superbly. We hope this can become an annual feature of island football. Thanks to all who came and made the day such a success.”
